VICTORIANS for Key Stage 1

Visits to Schools and museums

If you have just arrived at this page fresh from the Search Engine, please visit my Education page for a look at how I work.

For Key Stage One I adopt a flexible approach.
The range of activities may include any or all of the following, depending on group size and timing.
  • Meet various Victorian instruments, including a hammer dulcimer, concertina, button accordeon, hurdy gurdy, northumbrian smallpipes, pipe and tabor...maybe more if there's time;
  • 2 or 3 children discover, and thus show everyone, how the dulcimer works;
  • Sing real Victorian children's songs;
  • See how many servants a rich Victorian gentleman or lady might need;
  • Meet, and maybe work with,one or more Victorian-style dancing puppets;
  • Learn a Victorian singing game.

The children in Year 2 were fortunate to participate in your concentrated and dynamic session about music in Victorian times. I was really impressed with: the wide range of instruments you performed on, the fact that you allowed some children to have a go at playing these and also taught them a fun song.

Instruments, your costume and expertise, range of activities you presented kept the children engaged.
